I'm Kiersten. Along with my husband Ryan and our daughters Addie and Eloise, I've spent the last few years proving that the trips don't have to wait for some easier season that may never show up.

When I was pregnant with Addie, everyone told us the same thing: travel now, because once the baby comes it'll be years before you go anywhere. We didn't want to believe it, and we didn't want to wait a decade to start making these memories together.
So we went. Addie was five months old on her first long-haul flight. Eloise was one month old on her first trip. We've since spent three months living in Portugal, a month in the UK and Iceland, and more days than I can count somewhere with sand in the car.
Easier isn't better. The hard travel days are the price of the good ones, and the good ones are the whole reason we go.
It has never been perfect. There have been missed naps, crying on planes, a double stroller we regretted within two days of landing in Lisbon, and at least one moment per trip where I've wondered what we were thinking.
And then Addie tells someone what Mickey's glove felt like. Eloise asks to go back to the fish water. Both of them try gelato for the first time and declare it the best thing that has ever happened. That's the trade, and I'd make it every time.

The calm one
My husband, and the reason we always end up at the good local place. He carries the heavy bag and stays patient on the hard travel days.
Five
First long-haul flight at five months old. Leads the charge to every playground we pass and can spot a shave ice stand from a block away.
Three
Took her first trip at one month old. Happiest anywhere near water — ocean, pool, or a good puddle will do.

When I started posting our trips, the messages that came back were all some version of the same thing: I thought we had to wait. Or, I didn't know you could do this with kids this small.
There's no perfect time. There's the trip you take now, with the kids you have now, at the ages they are right now. My job is to make that trip easier — the real tips that work, plus the mistakes I've already made so you can skip them.
So take the little trip. Then the next one. Soak it up while they're little enough to fall asleep on you in the airport.
